Final Project Design

For my final project, I chose to create a druid who is slowly turning into her redwood tree.

Day 1:

I started off my drawing out my design:

Then painting my drawing:

Then creating my color elevation.  It took 6 total sheets with the final one being simply to make my applications on top of.

Day 2:

I used this day to create my latex appliances.

Here is my workspace and the very first layer of liquid latex for my appliances:

I had to do some experimenting with my moss appliance so I tried three different ways of applying it.  The first being just spirit gum on the back the second is latex on the back then spirit gum, and the third was netting and liquid latex.  While I performed my experiments I continued to create my other appliances. For a more detailed description see my Wound and appliance page.

After experimenting with the moss I concluded that the netting and the latex combined worked the best since it was easiest to remove and the most comfortable on my face.

I added some gems into my latex appliances to look as if her tiara had been absorbed by the bark on her face.

I did forget to take process shots of my painting the appliances since I did that over Easter Break but I was very excited and decided to try it on for the first time.

Day 3:

I spent day three finishing appliances and creating my flower crown.

The create the crown I bought some wire, floral tape, leaves, and flowers.  I braided the wires together and then covered them in floral tape.  I then used the floral tape to attach the leaves.  I did this all outside of class.

I also realized my bard appliances did not cover as much of my face as I desired so I created another and finished creating my moss appliance since I had run out of time before.

I began the process of hot gluing on all of the flowers. This took most of my class time.
It was a little larger than I had desired but it does still fit the design since I believe a druid princess would want a rather large crown.

Day 4:

Outside of class, I styled my wig.  I ran over it with a flat iron just to tame it down a little bit then divided it into two sections.  I selected a few small sections and braided them.  Then I braided it all into two fishtail braids.

The next step was to add some feathers, leaves, and flowers into the braids to complete the look.

I also finished painting my appliances so everything is officially ready to be put together and on my face.
